Listen – See – Touch – Do: That is how 135 students explored the traditional crafts rooted in their own homeland.
Last September, as part of the PWG-Phong Dinh Project, CKC, in collaboration with Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary and Lower Secondary School and the Phong Dinh Ward Women’s Union, organized three experiential field trips to local pottery and sedge craft villages for 135 students.
The first stop was Phuoc Tich Ancient Village, where pottery-making has been preserved for over 500 years. Students explored traditional ruong houses, visited a pottery kiln, learned about the pottery-making process, and shaped their own products from clay. Through these hands-on experiences, they gained a deeper appreciation of the skills, patience, and cultural values embodied in each handmade product.
The journey continued with a visit to a sedge craft village, where students learned about the history of the craft through conversations with local residents and had their first hands-on experiences of making sedge products.
The visit not only brought memorable moments with their friends and teachers, but also a space for students to learn by listening, seeing, touching, and doing. The experience also introduced them to traditional crafts as a valuable livelihood and career pathway that combines skills and creativity with opportunities linked to local tourism and services.
CKC hopes that, beyond the memories shared with their teachers and friends, each student returned from the visit with a greater understanding of and appreciation for the cultural values that continue to be preserved and passed on in their own community.

This activity is part of the “Women-Led Development of Eco-Friendly Handicraft Supply Chains for Tourism and Services in Phong Dinh Ward, Hue City” (PWG–Phong Dinh) Project, funded by the “Women-led Green Transition” (PWG) Project under the “Women-Led Green Partnership Program” funded by the European Union, managed by Oxfam in Vietnam, and implemented by the CKC in collaboration with the Phong Dinh Ward Women’s Union and KIDO Company.
